This went too far. Too fucking far.
Just because it bears repeating: this is not about “Larry”. This is about Louis Underscore supporting an environment in which a homophobic reaction — to an article complimenting Louis Tomlinson on an LGBTQ-positive gesture — is okay.
No. It’s fucking not. I don’t care what you ship; this is not about ships. This is overstepping a huge, huge line. If you want a fandom which embraces diversity, which welcomes anyone irrespective of their sexuality, you better be outraged.
If they felt a need to correct the assumption that Louis is gay (which the article did not even make), then they also had the following two options, both of which would have been better:
a) Louis himself could have done it in yesterday’s livestream since he had plenty of chances, and
b) if it had to be done via Twitter, it did not have to be in a hostile tone. The article in question was positive, it praised him for what he did. So his response could have been a simple, “Thanks for the kind compliment; I do support the LGBTQ community even though I myself am straight.” That’d still have been an overreaction, but at least it would not have come with quite such a negative connotation.Basically, I’m furious.
